Museum Announces 2011 "Groovin' in the Park" Music Schedule
The Deltaville Maritime Museum and Holly Point Nature Park is proud to announce that Steve Bassett, Virginia's own nationally renowned musician, will start off their 3rd Annual "Groovin' in the Park" series as part of the Museum's "Working Waterman's Weekend" festivities the last weekend in April.
Steve will perform live on the Waterfront Park stage from 5-7 pm on Saturday, April 30th. Groovin' in the Park, a six-concert series, is a casual, "bring your own lawn chair and picnic", outdoor celebration of fun music in all its styles and variations. All Groovin' proceeds directly benefit the Museum and Park.
"We have worked hard bringing together the very talented groups for this years series. We couldn't have been happier when Steve agreed to be our opening musician and a part of what we are trying to do" said a Museum spokesman.
John Hammond, Sr., iconic musical talent scout and the man who discovered many superstar musicians including Count Basie and Bruce Springsteen, said of Steve,
"Steve's musical style is a synthesis of America's root music; blues, r&b, gospel, and rock & roll. Not only does Steve have a true feeling for the blues, he is a master of the gospel idiom, and in this combination of talents he is just about unique in music. He is a singer's singer and he communicates with his audience in a soulful front porch manner that crosses markets and generations and leaves his listeners feeling like he has sung to them alone."
Tickets for Groovin' performances are $10 per concert and will be available at the Museum office and Nauti Nell's in Deltaville by the 3rd week in March. Tickets may always be purchased at the gate for each performance.
The Museum will again offer its "6 for 5" advance ticket packages in 2011. This package gets you 6 anytime/anyway tickets for the series for $50, a $10 savings. These tickets are good for any performance and can be used in any combination. The "6 for 5" package will be available by mail, at the Museum, or at the gate at the Steve Bassett opener. The package will not be offered after 7 pm on April 30th.
