The primary purpose of Holly Point Nature Park is to provide a surrounding setting for the Deltaville Maritime Museum which will encourage a continuing habitat of indigenous flora and fauna; the park being available for visitors to enjoy while visiting the museum or participating in its activities.
The key points of the Adopt-A-Spot program are:
- A community group, youth organization (supervised by adults), civic organization, business, neighborhood, family, friend group or individual may volunteer to adopt a specific area, garden, or trail in the park.
- The participants agree to maintain and beautify the adopted site at least four times a year for two years.
- In return for this generous commitment to the community, a sign that recognizes their contributions will be placed at their adopted spot. Their group name will be associated with their adopted spot on our website.
- The adopting individuals or organizations will submit an Adopt-A-Spot Partner Registration Form. A person will be identified as the primary contact to coordinate and communicate between the volunteers for that spot and the Adopt-A-Spot Manager and/or the museum office. The primary contact should be a member of the Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Point Nature Park.
- Once the application is accepted, the primary contact will work with the Adopt-A-Spot Manager to finalize the location of their adopted spot. Spots will be assigned on a first come, first served basis.
- The primary contact will get training on the landscaping goals of the park, the types of routine maintenance needed and the tools and supplies available.
- The primary contact will work with the Adopt-A-Spot Manager on any issues, questions, or proposals for changes to their spot.
- Participants are encouraged to consider native plant species for any beautification efforts and help the park protect native plants. No invasive species should be introduced.
- The primary contact will report the volunteer hours for their group to aid in coordination and recognition.
- If the group decides to opt out of the program, the primary contact will notify the Adopt-A-Spot Manager 30 days in advance.
- The group may renew their adoption for additional two year periods.
